Goodbye Summer, Hello Fall

Well, September has come to an end, but what a fun month it was!  Tim Baumgartner and I played some acoustic duo shows out on the road which is always a blast!  Labor Day weekend we traveled to Axton, VA and played at Mountain Valley Brewing, a small, local, family owned business out in the beautiful country side of Virginia.

All set up ready to play.

I have a lot of family in that area and was pleasantly surprised to see several of my uncles, aunts, and cousins (some I hadn’t seen in many years) come out to show their support.  It truly was like a family reunion for me!  I’m sure Tim was just thrilled being surrounded by so many of my family members.  Haha!  I bet you can’t guess which one is my mom in the picture below… hint: she looks like an angel.  😉

Here I am with Tim, the long legged guitar pickin’ man, my mom, my grandmother, and two extended family members.

And if you didn’t notice in the first picture,  we had a cute little 15 pound roadie/bodyguard on this trip – she goes by the name of Winifred Blue, AKA – “Winnie.”

If you look closely you can see our little roadie, Winnie, in the middle.

After Virginia we headed up to Chester Springs, PA to play our 2nd annual Labor Day house party, hosted by some friends we met at a Nashville show a couple of years ago.  As always, the party was a huge success!  Before the show started everyone participated in a flag folding ceremony, led by Gene Hough.  This was an amazing experience as this American flag has been all over the world.

All of us folding the American flag. Amazing moment!

While Tim and I play many acoustic duo shows on the road,  I’m always excited to get back to Nashville to play with my amazing band.  This month I also had the honor of filling in for the very talented, Taria Lee, and her awesome band at Whiskey Bent Saloon.

Life gets busy and I consider myself lucky to stay so busy doing what I love, but I’m not going to say that I wasn’t glad to be able to sneak off for a few days to relax.  A few girlfriends and I vacationed in Mexico, and stayed at the The Fives Azul Beach Resort in Playa del Carmen. You want to talk about breathtaking?!  Wow!  That trip was just what I needed to unwind, and if you ever get the chance to go, I highly recommend it.  Just watch out for the spider monkeys… that’s all I’m going to say about that.

I can’t finish this blog without mentioning one of the first friends I ever met when I moved to this town.  My buddy Tylor Bailey, we used to play shows together when we were first starting out and we learned a lot together.  He was like a brother to me and though I don’t get to see him hardly at all anymore, it’s always a happy time when we do run into each other.  Reminiscing is the best!  This particular night just happened to be his birthday.

This last weekend of September we played at the newly renovated Miamisburg Moose Lodge in Miamisburg, OH.  We have the pleasure of playing there quarterly thanks to our good friends, David & Sherry Pratt.  No matter how many times we have played at The Moose, the crowd never ceases to amaze and keeps us wanting to come back!  If you’re in the area, be sure to check my schedule for the next Miamisburg show!

So, we started September off with a family reunion for me and we ended September with a family reunion for Tim.  One of the perks of playing on the road is having the opportunity to play in or near your hometown and, although they may be short visits, they sure are sweet.  Tim’s cousin, Mick, had us come out and play at his pizza place in Brookville, IN.  First of all, if you live anywhere near the area, (heck, even if you don’t),  Third Place is a must!  The food is incredible, top shelf bourbon on tap, wonderful staff, and the venue itself is just beautiful.  We played a great show and Tim had several family members come up and play with us.  I must say, he comes from a very talented family and it was awesome to see them share the stage after not seeing each other for so many years.  By the way, HOME is always first, WORK is second, and the BAR is third – hence the name, “Third Place.”  🙂

Well, that’s it for now.  Thanks for stopping in!  Be sure to keep an eye out for my upcoming shows – I’ll be at Legends Corner, The Stage on Broadway, and AJ’s Good Time Bar.
